The Young Workers Survey was conducted by the UC Santa Cruz Center for Labor and Community with the UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center (CSRC) in collaboration with local unions SEIU Local 521 and Cabrillo College Federation of Teachers (AFT Local 4400), Cabrillo Community College, and community organizations. From March to July 2024, a team of fifty undergraduate students from UC Santa Cruz and Cabrillo College surveyed over 2,200 18 to 34-year-olds to gauge the wellbeing and aspirations of young people living and working in Santa Cruz County.

This report highlights one finding of the survey: Many young people are “union-curious”—that is, they have a generally positive view of unions. But they are also uncertain about joining a union, due to lack of experience or information regarding them.
