Alurista Poem Reprinted in New Anthology of Latino Poetry
A new poetry anthology from Arte Público Press includes the poem "Tarde sobria" by Alurista. The poem was originally published in the famed Chicano poet's groundbreaking book Floricanto en Aztlán, published by the CSRC Press in 1971 with a new edition in 2012.
Looking Out, Looking In: An Anthology of Latino Poetry, includes more than 80 Latino poets and focuses on poetry from the four largest groups in the United States: Mexican Americans, Cuban Americans, Puerto Ricans and Dominican Americans. In his introduction, scholar William Luis gives an overview of the origins of Latino literature in the United States, providing historical, political and cultural frameworks for these groups and their writings. William Luis is the Gertrude Conaway Professor of Spanish at Vanderbilt University and the editor of the Afro-Hispanic Review.
