The Aspen Institute invited Alex Ortega, CSRC associate director and professor of public health and psychiatry and bio-behavioral sciences at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, to challenge over 170 students from seventeen Los Angeles high schools to identify major health problems in their communities and develop strategies for combating those problems.

The Latinos & Economic Security project (LES) has issued a statement supporting President Obama's MyRA program, saying it's advantageous to Latinos, especially those who may not be knowledgeable about current retirement vehicles. In addition, "this new program lessens the risks of loss, mismanagement, and fraud, an issue important to immigrants, young Latinos, and older Hispanics who have been too often victimized by unscrupulous financial practices."
