Talk: Oscar Lopez Rivera presents "Decolonization, Hurricanes, and Solidarity"

In 2017, President Barack Obama commuted Oscar López Rivera, whose commitment to Puerto Rican independence led to him to be the longest held political prisoner in Puerto Rican history, serving 35 years in federal prison for seditious conspiracy. Upon his release, he was greeted as a national hero by tens of thousands in Puerto Rico and in Puerto Rican diaspora communities in the U.S. For this talk, he will address Puerto Rico’s colonial status is the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. He will also discuss his own incarceration as well as other political prisoners in U.S. custody.

This event will include a Q&A segment. Refreshments will be served.
